Built for the Microsoft stack
Most websites run on Linux, and for WordPress, PHP, and most CMS platforms that's the right choice. Some sites can't make the move. If your site was built in ASP.NET or classic ASP, stores data in Microsoft SQL Server, or relies on IIS features such as web.config rewrite rules, it needs a Windows server.
Our Windows hosting is managed through Plesk and comes ready for ASP.NET. You get the frameworks and databases your application expects, without running a server yourself.
What's on the server
Frameworks
ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC, ASP.NET Core, and classic ASP. PHP is also available, so a PHP app can sit next to a .NET one.
Databases
Microsoft SQL Server, managed in the browser or from SQL Server Management Studio, with support for stored procedures. MySQL is also available, with phpMyAdmin. Microsoft Access databases are supported too.
Tools developers expect
URL Rewrite, SSH access, FTP over SSL, ASP and ASP.NET mail scripts, Crystal Reports, and WCF services.
Plesk control panel
Plesk is the heart of the plan. Manage sites, subdomains, databases, email, DNS, and SSL from one browser-based panel. A one-click installer covers WordPress, Drupal, and other common apps.
Email and security included
- Email on your domain. Create as many mailboxes as you need, with webmail and IMAP, POP3, and SMTP over TLS/SSL. Email storage is shared across the plan, up to 10 GB in total. If your team needs more space per person, add one of our email plans. See email hosting
- Free SSL for each site, with SNI so many certificates can share one server.
- Virus scanning on incoming email.
- Cloudflare support for caching.
- Password-protected folders, and hotlink and leech protection to stop other sites using your files and bandwidth.
Windows or Linux?
- Choose Windows hosting if your site uses ASP.NET, .NET Core, classic ASP, or Microsoft SQL Server, or your developer has told you it needs IIS.
- Choose Linux web hosting if you run WordPress, WooCommerce, Joomla, Laravel, or another PHP app. That's most websites, and our Linux plans add timeline backups, malware protection, and free migration. See web hosting
- Not sure? Ask whoever built the site which language and database it uses. If the answer is PHP and MySQL, choose Linux.

What is Windows hosting?
Windows hosting is web hosting on a server that runs Microsoft Windows Server instead of Linux. It's needed for sites built with Microsoft technologies such as ASP.NET, classic ASP, and Microsoft SQL Server. Our Windows plans are managed through the Plesk control panel.
Do I need Windows hosting to run my site on a Windows computer?
No. The operating system on your own computer doesn't matter. What matters is the technology your website is built with. A WordPress site edited from a Windows laptop runs best on Linux hosting. An ASP.NET site needs Windows hosting.
Do I need Windows hosting for WordPress?
No. WordPress runs on PHP and MySQL, which work best on Linux, so our Linux web hosting is the better fit. Windows plans can run WordPress too, since PHP and MySQL are available and Plesk installs it in one click, but choose Windows only if you also need ASP.NET or SQL Server. See web hosting
Which control panel does Windows hosting use?
Plesk. You manage sites, databases, email, DNS, and SSL from Plesk in your browser.
Can I use Microsoft SQL Server?
Yes. SQL Server databases are included, and you can manage them in the browser or connect remotely with SQL Server Management Studio.
Can I resell space on a Windows hosting plan?
No. These plans can host several of your own sites, but they can't be split into separate client accounts. For that, choose Windows reseller hosting.
