Hosting for agencies that manage client websites
Web hosting for agencies comes down to one choice: host client sites under your own account, or give each client their own and resell it under your brand. This page helps you pick, then set it up so hosting stops eating your evenings.
The problem with hosting client sites ad hoc
Most agencies fall into hosting by accident. One client needed a site live by Friday, so it went on whatever account was handy.
Five years later you have sites spread across providers, renewal dates in three inboxes, and a client who thinks you are responsible for an outage on a server you cannot log in to. Picking a model on purpose fixes that.
Two ways to host client websites
Ask who the client calls when email stops working. If it is always you, a multi-site plan is simpler. If clients need their own logins, choose reseller hosting.
You manage everything
Client sites live on a multi-site plan in your name. Clients never log in. You bill hosting inside a care package.
Plan: Pro hosts up to 10 sites with priority resources. More than ten? See Unlimited Hosting.
Each client gets an account
Reseller hosting splits resources into separate accounts under your brand. You set packages and bill clients directly.
Reseller plans are coming soon. Request Essential and Advance tiers on demand when you are ready.
Set up a workflow that scales
- Keep domains in the client's name but in your client area, so you can manage renewals while they keep ownership.
- Standardize your stack. Same backup routine and security plugins on every site.
- Back up before every update. Timeline backups let you roll a client site back after a bad plugin update.
- Write the handover down. Agree who pays for hosting, who renews the domain, and what happens if the client leaves.
WordPress hosting for agencies
Most agency builds are WordPress. Every site on our SSD plans gets free SSL and malware protection, with advanced protection from the Business plan up.
Our page for WordPress users covers a monthly update routine you can apply across your client roster.
Bring your client sites across
Consolidating is easier than it sounds. Move client sites one at a time, check each on our servers, then switch its domain.
Moving a large roster? Tell us how many sites you have when you open the ticket, and we'll plan the order with you. See website migration for what to gather first.
What is the best hosting for agencies?
The best setup is one that keeps every client site in one place, with fast support and a clean way to bill. Agencies that manage everything themselves usually do well on a multi-site plan like Pro. Agencies that want clients to have their own logins and invoices should choose reseller hosting.
How many client sites can I host?
The Pro plan hosts up to 10 websites. On reseller hosting, the limit is the number of client accounts your plan allows: 25 on Essential and 35 on Advance, with more available in blocks of 10. Each client account can hold as many sites as you assign to it. The comparison page lists every allowance.
Should an agency use reseller hosting?
Use reseller hosting if clients need separate accounts, their own email logins, or invoices that come from you. Use a multi-site plan if you manage every site yourself and bill hosting inside a care package. Some agencies use both: a multi-site plan for care-plan clients and reseller accounts for clients who want access.
Can I bill clients under my own brand?
Yes, you can bill clients for hosting however you like. With reseller hosting, the panel your clients log in to can carry your brand, and you stay their first point of contact while we look after the servers. WHMCS is available as an optional add-on if you want automated billing and client sign-up.
