How to transfer a website to another host
Moving a website comes down to four things: copy the files, copy the database, test, then point the domain. Here's how, and the shortcut.
The shortcut: free website migration

Doing it yourself
- Back up your site. Download your files and export your database from your current host.
- Create the new hosting account. Add your domain to your new plan.
- Upload files and import the database. Use the file manager or FTP for files and phpMyAdmin for the database.
- Update the configuration. Point your site's config file at the new database details.
- Test before switching. Check the site on the new host before you change the domain.
- Point your domain. Update your domain's nameservers or DNS records to the new host. The change can take time to spread.
- Keep the old host until you're sure. Cancel the old account only after everything works.
Moving a WordPress site manually
The steps are the same. Copy the whole WordPress folder including `wp-content`, import the database, and update `wp-config.php` with the new database details. If your domain changes, update the site URL too.
